birdJam playlist with clapper rail

birdJam Clapper Rail
Playlists are the "secret sauce" that make it easy to quickly find a bird species on your birdJam iPod.

We've create very logical alphabetic, taxonomic, habitat and species playlists. Most birdJammers can find a specific bird in 15 seconds or less. The iPod screens shown on this page illustrate how quickly you would find a Clapper Rail.

Most bird songs are found in more than one playlist. A playlist is simply a way of indexing the songs on your iPod. So, for example, if you have the Eastern collection, a "Rail, Clapper" would be found in any of these playlists:

No, the Clapper Rail in the Eastern collection isn't actually loaded onto the iPod three times—it is simply indexed in three different playlists so you can use the one that allows you to find the bird fastest.

If you have both the Eastern and Western collections, you would also find a Clapper in the following playlists, but in this case, it would be a different song because it was recorded in the West rather than the East:

To see a list of all the standard birdJam playlists, see: Playlist Detail.

Number of Playlists. We regularly debate as to whether there are too many or too few playlists. A birdJammer survey indicated that about 75% of birdJammers think there are about the right number, while 12% thought there were too few and 13% thought there were too many. We do our best to keep everyone happy, but there a bit of that ol' rock and a hard place here!

Create Custom Playlists. Many birdJammers create custom playlists in iTunes and download them to their iPods. Of course, you must have loaded the Stokes CDs (or other birdJam collections) into iTunes and formatted and organized them using birdJam Maker. Then you just go to the File Menu in iTunes, select and name a New Playlist, and then drag and drop your selections into the playlist before syncing your iPod. This is very helpful if you are going to a new area and have targeted birds in mind.

Create On-the-Go Playlists. This is a simple option if you don't have the Stokes bird songs in iTunes or installed birdJam Maker. You just use the "On-the-Go" playlist function on your iPod to create custom playlists right on your iPod.

Download Optional Playlists. We've made it easy to download optional playlists via birdJam Maker. To use these optional playlists, once again you must have loaded the Stokes CDs (or other birdJam collections) into iTunes and formatted and organized them using birdJam Maker. Then, open birdJam Maker > File Menu > Download Optional Playlists. Here are some of the Optional Playlists that are available for download:
