Sounds of the Great Blue Heron
Ardea herodius

Shortcut: rok-rok

Song: A harsh, loud rok-rok or a prolonged croaked frahnk.

Call: You'll hear the gutteral rok-rok call in both fresh and saltwater marshes. The frahnk croak signals aggressive actions or when taking flight. Breeding colony sounds include a staccato kek-kek-kek-kek-kek of begging young, along with raspy calls and croaks of adults.
