Who We Are

We're often asked how we got started.  Back in 2004, Jay and Charlie were taking a Master Birding Course from the Atlanta Audubon.  The power of birding by ear was obvious, so Jay decided to load some bird songs from the Stokes CDs on to his new iPod.  He did some initial work to split tracks, remove the narration and organize some rudimentary playlists.

He and Charlie took this very first "birdPod" on a field trip, and they were continually asked, "Where did you get that, and where can I get one?"  They immediately knew they were onto something so they set about to create the revolutionary birdJam that enables most any birder to find a song/call in 15 seconds or less.

Two-and-a-half years later, thousands of birders have signed on as birdJammers, and we continue to innovate while keeping sharp focus on our mission:  Delivering easy-to-use yet sophisticated audio-on-the-go for birders, complete with outstanding and knowledgeable service.

We are dedicated to bird conversation.  Every year we donate at least five percent of company profits to The Nature Conservancy and other non-profits dedicated to the conservation, enjoyment and rehabilitation of birds.

Our dedication to bird conservation also drives us to provide information regarding the responsible use of powerful technology such as birdJam.  Please click here to read more about recommendations for responsibly using technology in the field.

MightyJams (our parent company) is an Atlanta-based partnership.  We feel tremendous personal gratification when our customers are delighted, and we will work with each of you to ensure you are happy and satisfied with birdJam.  The birdJam partners are:

Jay Davis, birdJam's chief architect, designer and developer.  When you call or email those really tough questions, he's the one who will respond.  Meticulous and precise, he takes great pleasure in keeping birdJam at the forefront of sophisticated yet simple technology for birding.  He leads bird walks for the Atlanta Audubon (AAS), serves on the AAS board of directors, is responsible for a breeding bird survey in his neighborhood and recently acquired a kayak.

Charlie Haynes who edits birdJam bird songs, formats photography from our outstanding and renowned photographers, searches for and acquires the best birdJam accessories, designed our wonderful logo and all our advertising and other materials, handles much of our customer support, and he is absolutely passionate about keeping birdJam as the best and easiest-to-use birding technology for the field.  He and his wife, Franca, bird in far-flung locations such as Italy, and they also just acquired a kayak.

Denese Van Dyne believes she's found the best of all possible worlds in MightyJams where she can combine her high-tech marketing expertise and her passion for birds.  She dedicates long hours to working with birdJammers, editors, bloggers, vendors, and many others to create tremendous satisfaction, credibility and visibility for birdJam.  She finds it invigorating to delight customers with outstanding products and the very best service that can be delivered.  Rather than kayaking, Denese enjoys sailing and was recently in Antigua and Barbuda where she ventured to one of the largest Frigate Bird rookeries in the world.

If you would like to contact us, please email us at info@birdjam.com, or call us on 1-800-403-5524 ext #1.  You'll find us both passionate about what we do and enthusiastic about your questions and needs.  With best wishes and many thanks, Denese, Jay and Charlie
